In Pigments 3.5, you can now go further in terms of Modulation, with the CROSSMOD SOURCE section now offering two options:
- Modulator
- Engine 1/2
Modulator was already featured in Pigments 3, with different modulation sources and modulation options being offered depending on the type of engine chosen.
With Pigments 3.5, Engine 1 and Engine 2 can now be used as a modulation source for each other.
Important: The engine used as modulation source must be turned on in order to provide modulation.
It stays true whether you set the two engines as Analog, Wavetable, Sample or Harmonic engines.
You will, however, see that the controls will be different depending on what Engine type is selected as the modulation source.

Harmonic Engine as Modulation Source

Tip: Try to play with the volume knobs of the two engines to hear the modulation, and the amount of modulation (gain).
For more detailed information about Engine Cross Modulation, please refer to section 5.6 of Pigments 3.5's user manual that you can find here.
It means that the distorsion effect from Pigments covers everything from soft clipping to analog tape saturation to wavefolding.
You can access all these distortion types by cliking on the drop-down menu as pictured below:

Please note that the Overdrive and Wavefolder effects are now algorithm types in Distortion, not separate effects.

As you can see from the picture above, the new filter modes are LP6, BP6 and HP6.
When you select one of them, two new controls will appear on the right side.

All-Pass simply controls the all-pass filter.
Damping is a little more complex. It has different effects on the feedback loop depending on which filter mode is selected.
Here are the details for each of the filter modes concerned:
- LP6: Higher frequencies decay faster than lower ones, resulting in a natural sound,
- HP6: Lower frequencies decay faster than higher ones, resulting in a thinner sound
- BP6: A band of frequencies in the loop is isolated, resulting in controlled inharmonicities
Note: With this update, some changes made on the filters might affect the sounds you created. If you want to prevent any unexpected changes to the way your works sound, please export them before updating Pigments.
You can find the 59 of them in a folder dedicated to Pigments 3.5.
They are displayed when selecting a wavetable in the Wavetable Engine's drop-down menu, as shown below:

You can find in it 3 individual sound banks, each containing 150 presets.
The three sound banks are:
- Bass Thermal
- Trap Chemical
- EDM Kinetic
You can download them after purchase from My Products after logging on My Arturia.
