MiniFreak is provided with MiniFreak V, a utility software, companion software, and standalone synth.
All updates of the MiniFreak are processed through MiniFreak V.
Note
When proceeding with the firmware update please make sure that:
- MiniFreak V is running as a standalone application.
- You're connecting the MiniFreak hardware directly to your computer, or through a powered USB hub.
Warning
Do NOT reboot your MiniFreak if it fails to reboot by itself, or if the update fails.
If MiniFreak does not reboot by itself at the end of a firmware update procedure, make sure to :
- First close and reopen MiniFreak V to attempt the firmware update.
- If the update fails again, repeat the previous step. You still should not reboot the unit.
- Lastly, if the second attempt is still not sucessful, make sure to restart your computer while still keeping the unit powered on.
To update your unit :
- Open MiniFreak V in standalone,
- Connect the MiniFreak to your computer,
- Boot the hardware,
- MiniFreak V will then automatically synchronize to MiniFreak.
- If MiniFreak V is not automatically detecting or linking to the synthesizer, make sure to click the "Link to MiniFreak" button.
- From there, at the bottom of the MiniFreak V software, you will find the FW Upgrade button allowing you to access the corresponding menu :
- If the UPGRADE REQUIRED message is shown, the unit does need to be updated. Make sure to click on "Download & Install latest" to enter the update procedure:
- The MiniFreak will then switch to update mode, with the panel darkened and only the Assign Pages button blinking. The progress bar at the bottom will show you where the update is currently at.
Once the procedure is completed, the unit will fully power back on and is ready for use again!

- Use a computer connected to the internet and go to : https://www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/minifreak/resources.
- Download the latest firmware version here:
- Open MiniFreak V in standalone,
- Connect the MiniFreak to your computer,
- Boot the hardware unit,
- If the MiniFreak V is not automatically detecting or linking to the synthesizer, make sure to click the « Link to MiniFreak » button.
- From there, at the bottom of the MiniFreak V software, you will find the "FW Update" button allowing you to access the corresponding menu :
- Click on "Upload from file",
- Select the file in .mnfx format that you’ve downloaded from Arturia’s website,
The MiniFreak will then switch to update mode, with the panel darkened, and only the Assign Pages button blinking. The progress bar at the bottom will show you where the update is currently at.
Once the procedure is completed, the unit will fully power back on, and will be ready for use again!
