"Play" page was redesigned for better readability (Larger preset name) and intuitiveness:
You will find circular macros and a reactive visualizer representing the Sound Structure in real time.
It also offers a useful "Disable Visualizer" option at the bottom of the interface when working on setups with reduced Graphics processing power (Integrated graphics or entry-level GPUs) and avoid CPU performance to be also impacted at the same time.
"Quick Edit" tool-tip was improved and is now displaying the modulation range on the target parameters (e.g: Convenient for pitch modulation) to always stay in the creative flow:
{Modulation Source} +/- {Amount}
{Min Range} → {Max Range}
You will find three additional filters within Pigments 7:
- "Rage":
The Filter Rage is a unique filter that implements a feedback loop containing a distortion inside the feedback to get a really aggressive rumbling sound, while adding to its resonance a unique character to the sound. The Rage parameter really emphases this by driving the distortion inside the Feedback Loop.
- "Ripple":
The Filter Ripple is a filter that combines successive allpass filters at the same frequency, creating an intense phase shift leading to some frequencies being delayed.
- "Reverb":
The Reverb Filter is a very short reverb, inducing mostly a timbre modification rather than a reverbery sound. It’s a great asset to explore, especially for bass design. The additional post distortion really helps in getting unique and fat timbres.
A new effect called "Corroder" is now present:
The Corroder Effect adds texture and grit to your sound while keeping the identity of the dry signal. It works by applying FM on the input signal with internal or external sources to introduce everything from delicate Stereo enhancement to aggressive digital erosion.
"Classic Filter" now benefits from FM "Audio Rate" modulations from the following sources:
- Engine 1
- Engine 2
- Mod Osc 1
- Mod Osc 2
Selection is available via the "FM" source selection menu for Filter 1 and 2:
This allows for complex, harmonically rich movement directly at the filter stage.
Two changes were made to enhance audio quality and remove as much friction as possible:
- Refined "Amplitude Envelopes" to eliminate unwanted clicks sometimes noticeable when processing signals with minimal high-frequency content, like a pure sine wave, through a multi-band compressor.
- S-shaped curves implementation on Attack & Release stages to ensure a much smoother and more gradual fade-in and fade-out at the shortest settings while keeping a more natural and progressive curve on longer times, resulting in a cleaner signal when needed.
Some optimizations were done across engines and modules to improve the overall performance, allow for smoother playback, higher polyphony and improved efficiency, such as:
- Voice processing improvements with Polyphonic patches to reduce the pressure on the CPU
- Default preset optimizations (Multicore "On" + "Granular Engine grain limit" set to 64)
Pigments 7 now offers multiple "Sound Design" tutorials based on different musical styles and sound types to teach core techniques and provide powerful tips.
These can be found via the Hamburger menu (top left corner) or via the preferences panel as well:
