The CMI V is compatible with the following audio formats:
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format)
AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format)
Note: The sample max length is 30 seconds.
If you don't want your samples to play together at the same time, you can set for each of your slots:
- A MIDI note range
- A MIDI channel
- A root note
This can be done from the Tune/Map section, like below:
You can assign the velocity or another parameter such has the aftertouch, the mod wheel, the expression pedal and more to any parameter per sample slot from the assign Panel.
To do that:
-
- Click on the modulation source MAP button.
- Click on the destination parameter of your choice
- Drag this parameter to define a modulation amount
The slots having a parameter mapped to the selected modulation source will be marked with a yellow square.
The Sampling mode allows to import an audio file in the CMI V.
Once imported, you can visualize the sample waveform and edit it through the following sections.
-
- Evolution lets you:
-
- Set the sample start & length
- Toggle the loop mode ON/OFF
- Define the loop start & length
- Choose a play mode (Foward / Backward)
-
- Tune/Filter allows to:
-
- Adjust the sample volume
- Transpose & tune
- Filter its high frequencies with a non-resonant low-pass.
-
- Envelope: Controls the amplitude of the sample and can be both set to two modes
Trig ON = Attack Damping envelope
Trig OFF = Attack Hold Damping envelope. It also includes a Damping mode to swap between two Damping values*. As an example, this can be very useful to create closed/open hit hats variations.
Damping = Release - Vibrato: This section gives access to 3 modulations:
-
- Vibrato (Pitch)
- Tremollo (Amplitude)
- Filter (Modulates the low pass frequency)
-
- Portamento / Bend: Gives access to:
-
- The Portamento
- The Glissando
- Their time
- The pitchbend range
-
- Evolution lets you:
Sampling Edit Section: This additional sections allows further sample editing functions, and the possibility to convert a sample into additive synthesis through a Fast Fourier Transformation. (FFT)
-
- Reverse: Sets the sample play mode to backward
- Invert: Inverts the phase of the sample waveform.
- Gain: Determines the level of a loaded sample (-30 to +18 dB)
- BitDepth: Adjusts the bit resolution.
- Sample Rate: Sets the definition of the audio file playback.
- Filter Low: Applies a hipass filtering (from 18 Hz to 294 Hz)
- Filter High: Applies lowpass filtering (from 0.9 kHz to 12 kHz).
- CONVERT TO SYNTHESIS: Recreates the sample waveform with additive synthesis through a Fast Fourier Transformation. (FFT)
This is achieved by pressing the ANALYZE button.
(You can filter out higher harmonics with the Filter funciton: Value of 0 = no effect / Value of 7 max filtering.)
- Reverse: Sets the sample play mode to backward
Time Synth is the second synthesis mode available.
This synthesis section can be used in two ways:
- Create a waveforms by editing hamonics over a time period through the Edit section.
Once you edited your waveform, you can convert it in into a sample by clicking on Compute in the Edit section. - Transform a sample into a waveform from the sampling Analyze function.
Once you synthesized a sample, it will be recreated in the time synth panel.
The EDIT section shows the computed sample waveform and the evolution of its harmonics over time.
Spectral Synth: This mode allows to start from an easel of standard and wavetables waveforms.
You can then shape the waveform harmonics to your convenience, thanks to the parameters available in the evolution panel.
- Center: Offsets the higher amplitude notch through the harmonics. (mean)
- Spread: Sets the volume of harmonics around the center harmonic.
- Bias: Emphasizes the harmonics below or above the center. (mean)
- Fund Boost: Sets the amplitude of the fundamental harmonic.
- Wavetable Voice: Here you can select the basic waveform that is used for the additive synthesis.
In the pop-up menu, you can choose different waveforms as well as wavetables.
The function of this parameter is to reset the whole sequencer to step 1 when playback reaches the value it defines. (This function is only active when the Polymetry is enabled.)
Extend it if you need more space, or adjust it to your convenience if you are using polymetry.
