No sound from the Mix Output:
Please make sure you are using a 6.35 TS jack. (One ring)
No sound when trigged by the internal sequencer, but sound when trigged from an external MIDI device:
In the Midi Control Center > DrumBrute > Device settings, there is a parameter called "Local Control".
If this parameter is set to OFF, your won't be able to trigger the sounds from your DrumBrute Pads / Sequencer.
Yes this is normal behaviour caused by the design of the instrument. This absolutely doesn't mean that your potentiometer is defective or damaged.
Please note that this effect won't increase day after day, and that this can be found on other more expensive drum machines.
The DrumBrute's Kick 2 uses a resonant filter technology to generate the sound.
A trigger signal is sent into the filter and starts the oscillation.
The duration of the self-oscillation is defined by the Decay control.
When that instrument generates two kicks in a very short period, the sound of the second kick is sometimes not the same as the first one.
This is simply because the second kick is mixed with the first kick decay:
- When both are in phase, it accentuates the sound of the second hit.
- When they are out of phase, it attenuates the sound of the second hit.
Kick 2 is strongly inspired by a classic kick drum design. Consequently these particularities are inherent to that analog circuit.
Subtile changes on the Pitch parameter or on the BPM alleviates / deletes this effect.
Master:
- Internal: DrumBrute generates the source clock through USB, MIDI & Sync Out.
Slave:
- Usb: In USB mode, your DrumBrute is slave of the midi clock coming from MIDI-USB.
- Midi : Your DrumBrute is slaved by the clock coming from an external midi device through MIDI Din.
- Clock: This mode allows you to set the clock source from an Analog Clock. (Din Sync)
Functions |
Shortcut | Details |
Playback Focus |
<< + >> | Displays & follow the pattern being read on playback. |
Copy pattern |
SHIFT + >> | Copy the first pattern, can be repeated 3 times. |
Change Metronome Time Division |
Metronome ON + Step 1-5 | To reset it to 1/4, press the selected step again |
Shift a Step |
Step + Swing | In Step Mode & Accent mode only |
Hard Reset |
Song + Bank + Ptrn + Power On | Delete all sequences and resets all parameters |
Roller / Looper |
Shift + Step 8 | Sets touch strip to Roller or Looper. |
Shift all instruments (time) |
Shift + Swing (Current Track OFF) |
Shift all the instruments pattern from -50 to +50 |
Shift selected Instrument (time) |
Shift + Swing (Current Track ON) |
Shift the select instrument only from -50 to +50 |
Swing
Current Track: Apply a Swing value to the selected instrument.
Global: Apply a swing value to all the instruments at the same time.
/!\ If swing values are applied to specific instruments, these swing values can’t be lower than the Global swing values. /!\
/!\ If the Global swing is augmented, the individual swing values will be shifted in order to keep the same interval between the individual and global values. /!\
- Randomness
Current Track: Apply a Randomness value to the selected instrument.
Global: Apply a Randomness value to all the instruments
Unlike swing, Randomness Individual & Global values are independent
To enable the Unquantized mode, press SHIFT + REC.
Once the unquantized mode is enabled, the grid will be turned off and will allow brutal grooves.
- Looper : On playback, if you touch the ribbon control, it will repeat the steps depending of the division pressed and create the classic looper effect.
- Roller: To easily write your sequences, you can use the roller. To do that, enable Record, touch the roller strip and press an instrument pad.
It will write notes depending of the division pressed.
- Step Repeat : To subdivide a step, use the Step Repeat or Ratcheting function. To do that, hold the step, and press the corresponding division on the ribbon control, the division selected will be highlighted with the step repeat led. To check if a step is subdivided, hold the step button and check if a step repeat led is lit.
Just like with patterns & Banks, changes & edits must be saved. If you edit the song and quit it without saving it, changes will be lost.
In this case, your metronome time division must be wrong. But this can be changed to your convenience between 1/4, 1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T & 1/32.
To do that press: Metronome ON + Step 1 to 5.
The selected value will be blue highlighted.
When no values are lit on steps 1 to 5, the metronome is in it's default division (1/4).
The DrumBrute audio circuits are 100% Analog, which make them unable to receive automations by design.
DrumBrute accepts & provide Midi for the following parameters:
1. MIDI OUT:
==> Midi Notes -> from the Instruments' pads
==> Transport -> From transport button through MMC or CC
==> Clock
==> CC Roller/Looper
==> All Notes OFF (3xStop)
2. MIDI IN:
==> Midi notes
==> Clock
==> Local Control
==> All Notes OFF / All Sounds OFF
==> Song Position Pointers
==> CC Roller/Looper
For Windows users, when editing parameters on your Drumbrute through the Midi Control Center, you have to make sure that all applications using midi are closed. (DAW, Midi Monitor, Standalone plugins etc...)
Otherwise, your device won't be correctly synchronised. Your firmware revision will be displayed as "Unknown", and all the changes made on the device won't be retained.
> This happens because Windows is not able to handle several applications to access a midi device at the same time.
> Mac users are not affected by this behaviour as OSX/MAC OS midi management allows multiple applications to access the midi devices.
-
Input: The DrumBrute tolerates clock signals between 3.3V to 10V.
- Output: The DrumBrute delivers 3.3V clock signals.
- 9Vpp = 12 DbU (Kick 2)
The DrumBrute is able to receive Song / Bank / Pattern change messages.
To do that, here is the MIDI message nomenclature that must be used:
Function | Midi Message | Message Details |
Select Song Song Select (System Common Message) |
F3 XX |
XX = Song Number Song 01 = 00 Song 16 = 0F |
Select Bank MSB or Bank message ( 0 to 4 ) |
BY XX | Y = Midi Channel Channel 1 = 0 Channel 16 = F XX = Bank Bank 1 = 00 Bank 4 = 03 |
Select Pattern Program change ( 0 to 16 ) |
CY XX | Y = Midi Channel Channel 1 = 0 Channel 16 = F XX = Pattern Pattern 1 = 00 Pattern 16 = 0F |
Warning: You can't change the Bank / Pattern from a MIDI message if the Song Mode is enabled !
Before to get started, don't forget to first update your DrumBrute firmware to the latest version available !
To manage your sequences, configure or update your DrumBrute firmware, please use the Midi Control Center.
