The MiniFreak V, while being a standalone plugin is also the hub to connect and use your MiniFreak hardware unit with, we will now here cover the features that are specific to the "MiniFreak 49 mode".
Note
"MiniFreak 49 Mode" is only available to users who own and have a MiniFreak 49 license registered on their account, it only comes with the purchase of the hardware unit of the MiniFreak 49.
- Filter FM: "Audio-rate modulation" of the analog filter by either oscillator.
- Stereo Spread: New dedicated effect in the chain.
- Touch strips: Visually replaced by a Pitchbend and Modwheel to match the ones from physical unit:
The MiniFreak 49 introduces audio-rate modulation of the analog filter by either oscillator.
This is accessed via the dedicated "FILTER FM" bipolar control, which determines which oscillator modulates the filter.
- Centered: no modulation is applied.
- Clockwise: Oscillator 2 modulates the filter.
- Counter-clockwise: Oscillator 1 modulates the filter.
At "Audio rates", the selected oscillator continuously modulates the filter cutoff, generating additional harmonics and sidebands.
This can transform otherwise simple sounds into metallic, bell-like, vocal, or highly inharmonic timbres. Increasing the modulation depth and filter resonance makes the effect increasingly pronounced.
This is quite interesting once you play around with different waveforms and ratios, note that polyphony also does affect this differently depending on the voices used.
The dedicated "Voice Pan" control positions all six voices independently across the stereo field, generating a natural sense of width directly from the voices without relying on chorus, reverb, or other effects.
- Centered: Keeps the two voices anchored in the middle while the others fan outwards symmetrically.
- Gradual: Spreads all six progressively across the stereo field, creating a different sense of movement as notes and voices change.
To select the spread algorithm click in the FX window, on the "Pan" drop down which will allow you to toggle between the above mentioned modes :
In order to connect and use your unit with the Standalone version of MiniFreak V, make sure to refer to the following dedicated article:
MiniFreak V - Connect your MiniFreak
"The Minifreak 49 mode" is only available if you have registered and activated a license for a Minifreak 49 hardware unit on your computer.
- Once activated, linking your Minifreak 49 to the Minifreak V, will automatically switch the Minifreak V to the 49 layout.
Once you are in the "Minifreak 49 mode" you will be able to access the new features that are specific to the 49 model, like filter FM, stereo spread and pitch/modhweels.
- If you want to switch manually without having the unit connected you can do so from the side panel menu:
You can off course use the "MiniFreak 49 mode" even without the unit connected as long as you have an active Minifreak 49 license.
Here are some important information to keep in mind if using both a MiniFreak and a MiniFreak 49 Hardware device while transferring and saving presets:
- The Minifreak 49 supports all of the MiniFreak presets, note that once transferred to the Minifreak 49 and saved again, these presets will be converted and won't allow you to transfer them back to a Minifreak unit.
- When using the "Minifreak 37 mode" on the Minifreak V, all Minifreak 49 presets will be greyed out and won't be accessible.
