The MiniFreak’s firmware is its operating system, much like the operating system on your computer.
The term “firmware” typically describes code that runs on custom hardware designed for a particular purpose (like a synthesizer), as opposed to software, which runs on a general-purpose computer designed to do many things.

Firmware updates can include new features, operational improvements, bug fixes, and other benefits.
1) Register your product
- First, create an account and/or log into the Arturia Website.
- Then, go to the “My account” page.
- Then click on the “Register New Product” button.
- Finally, enter the serial number and the unlock code of your MiniFreak, which is shown on a card enclosed in the box, and on a sticker at the back of the synthesizer.
- Download the ASC and install it.
- Launch the ASC and log into your account.
- In the “My Products” tab you will find the “MiniFreak V” product. Click on the “Activate” button and wait for a few seconds.
- Click on the “Install” button, and wait for the MiniFreak V to download and install.
This requires the MiniFreak V, a software title available for all registered MiniFreak users.
To install it, refer to the “REGISTER YOUR MINIFREAK AND INSTALL MINIFREAK V” section above.
Before upgrading your firmware, make sure your MiniFreak V is up to date. To do so, open the ASC and update the MiniFreak V.
If MiniFreak V is not up to date, you will miss on some features from the new firmware.
Before updating the MiniFreak Firmware, please connect your unit using the USB cable.
Once this is done, launch your MiniFreak V software and make sure that your MiniFreak is linked to your computer.
To find out, look on the right of the preset top toolbar :
Then, you have two options:
1) Update it automatically:
In case you are facing issues updating your MiniFreak, please refer to the following steps depending on the situation you're in :
Case 1: The update is successfull but the unit does not reboot by itself.
Please make sure to reboot the unit using the bootloader mode :
Do not quit or relaunch MiniFreak V in the meantime.
Case 2: The update failed, during the process of the update.
Please make sure to reboot the unit using the bootloader mode :
Do not quit or relaunch MiniFreak V in the meantime.
To install it, refer to the “REGISTER YOUR MINIFREAK AND INSTALL MINIFREAK V” section above.
IMPORTANT
Before upgrading your firmware, make sure your MiniFreak V is up to date. To do so, open the ASC and update the MiniFreak V.
If MiniFreak V is not up to date, you will miss on some features from the new firmware.
Once this is done, launch your MiniFreak V software and make sure that your MiniFreak is linked to your computer.
To find out, look on the right of the preset top toolbar :
- If you see an orange button “Linked to MiniFreak” : Your unit is synced to the MiniFreak V.
- If you see a white button named “Link to MiniFreak” : Click on the button, and wait for the “Linked to MiniFreak” orange button to appear.
- If you don’t see a button : Make sure that your MiniFreak is powered up and is connected through USB cable to your computer.
Then, you have two options:
1) Update it automatically:
- MiniFreak V is able to download the Firmware directly from the Arturia’s servers, and to install it directly into your unit. To use this feature click on the “Download & Install Latest” button.
- The MiniFreak will then switch to update mode, with the panel darkened and only the Assign Pages button blinking. The progress bar at the bottom will show you where the update is currently at.
- To update your firmware manually you need to download the firmware file from the MiniFreak “Resources” page. You will find it under the videos section in the “Firmware” section.
- Then, on the MiniFreak V firmware update popup, click on the “Upload from file” button.
- Navigate to the file in the dialogue box that will pop up.
- Choose the file, and the process will begin.
