The Morphée controller is a unique three-way continuous controller, located to the left of the PolyBrute’s keyboard. It combines an X/Y touch pad with a spring-loaded platform you can press on to engage a Z axis of control. Thus with one finger, you can control three different things at the same time.
The Morphée can control three areas, which you can cycle through with a dedicated button.
- Matrix: Each of the three axes acts as a modulation source in the PolyBrute modulation Matrix.
- Arp/Seq: Adds randomness to arpeggiator and sequencer patterns (see below).
- Morph: Enables Morphing on the X/Y surface. The bottom left corner is equivalent to Morph knob position A. The top right is equivalent to position B.
In Matrix mode, the Morphée’s three axes can be assigned to different (and multiple) destinations using the Mods function of the Matrix Panel.
- Row J assigns the X axis of the Morphée.
- Row K assigns the Y axis of the Morphée.
- Row L assigns the Z axis of the Morphée.
Rows J, K and L are shared with the modulation wheel, ribbon controller and expression pedal 1, respectively.
This mode randomizes different aspects of a running arpeggio or sequence.
You can also swipe three fingers on the Morphée at once to roll the “Dice” and randomize all three of the above at once, like so:
- The X axis adds Spice, altering the velocity and octaves of notes without transposing the pitch.
- The Y axis adds a different Spice, altering the gate time.
- The Z axis adds a Ratchet effect, but we think it’s actually a very good effect. It subdivides the steps with more triggers as you apply more pressure, much like a “glitch” or “stutter” effect.
You can also swipe three fingers on the Morphée at once to roll the “Dice” and randomize all three of the above at once, like so:
- The X axis controls pitch-related parameters of the Morph.
- The Y axis controls level-related parameters of the Morph.
- The Z axis keeps being a modulation source.
Yes. To get to these options, press the Settings button, then numeric button 3 for Expression Control, then 4 to get to the Morphée Modes sub-menu.
The choices are:
The choices are:
- Tap: The X/Y surface tracks absolute finger position and “lets go” as soon as you’re not touching it.
- Hold: The X/Y surface tracks absolute finger position and does not let go.
- Scan: Like Tap, but the X/Y surface tracks the relative position of your finger.
- Hold Scan: Like Hold, but the X/Y surface tracks the relative position of your finger.
That reflects the position of the Morph knob. At A, the backlight is off. It gets brighter as you turn the knob towards B.
